Yes! King's parents were horrible people! I was right! I'm probably more excited about that than I should be but I've had a really long night.
Thank you random "King fact" I will add it to the list.
Also I was sort of right about where this plot was going.

I believe that was when he was younger.Saturn381 wrote:I thought King ran away with his pets.
The advice continues for Mister Miles,
from the smartest Human he knows.
Of course the fact King is the guy
is probably a mistake on the nose.
Miles takes his advice at an angle
and plans the way to a wilder run
where they’ll encounter old ways
and Miles will counter children.
The stroppiness of teenagers
is something Miles hasn’t met.
The fact he’s lost some status
is a fact THEY’LL soon regret...

You really think King is going to join the wolves? If we see King again in this chapter besides like at the very end I’ll faint from shock.CyberDragon wrote:Yep! Knew this was going to be the "King and the Wolves go camping" arc.
I guess unless Bailey is like “Camping! That’s sounds like so much fun. It would be good for the pups to experience nature and return to their roots.”
King with his head buried in his paws says “One day I need to learn when to keep my mouth shut. Hasn’t it gotten me in enough trouble already. Maybe that’s why my parents kicked me out.”

The reason I know is because for a while during the last arc, Rick has been saying he's been wanting to do an arc about King and the Wolves going camping.

Joel then proceeded to literally become and live like an animal while being better for it, minus the crawling... let alone the back, though really he only didn't crawl cause of how this universe works.

The only one saying that about Joel was King. Pete couldn't care less if he became a better person by being a dog, the only reason he did it was with the options still available to him, turning Joel into a corgi gave him the avatar with the best stats.CHAOKOCartoons wrote:"If he likes his animals so much, lets see how much he likes living like one! I meant his parents. The ones in the punchline of the comic's joke.Champion Wallace wrote:The only one saying that about Joel was King. Pete is not King's parent(s).
Re: 2018/06/29 - The Fear Of Dog
Actually, we see King's mother indirectly in one of the comics in the chapter "Heaven's not Enough Part 2". This would seem to more indicate that only one of his parents is horrible (or there's a special clause involving mothers and heaven). I won't go theory-craft any further however.fenrirblack wrote:Yes! King's parents were horrible people! I was right! It could also be that Joel's mother turned her life around for the better before her death, you know.

Re: 2018/06/29 - The Fear Of Dog
His mother wasn’t to saintly in that pic. Remember they were terrible to their pets which was why they kiddnapped Joel. Not to mention they were gone a week. Let me ask you, the internet, how far can a cat, two dogs, and an eight-ish year old boy really get. If Joel was gone a week I have this feeling his parents didn’t try to hard to find him. Not to mention considering how Joel turned out they obviously didn’t do a thing to help him get over it. Heaven must be pretty easy to get into. As long as you don’t do something completely monstrous, you're good.Therolyn wrote:Actually, we see King's mother indirectly in one of the comics in the chapter "Heaven's not Enough Part 2". The reason I would imagine is that A) maybe he could use some time away from civilization and his responsibilities as a husband and father. B) To talk about human life and such with the wolf, to make them realize what they're missing? Only time will tell! I really do hope that King goes camping with them. I want more cute corgi action

For King, meeting Jessica would be bad enough. Imagine if he met... Craig...
Re: 2018/06/29 - The Fear Of Dog
Well, considering how King's meeting with Jessica went, an encounter with Cilantro should be a classic.
On another topic, King's Heavenly encounter with his mother was not exactly the standard Simon-Garfunkel "Mother-and-Child-Reunion". I assume the lady [1] benefitted from celestial compassion and [2] remains spiritually a work in in progress...

That's a polite way of putting it. King's mother doesn't strike me as the type of woman who mellows out in heaven like Keene's mother. I want King to go back up there and give her a piece of his mind. A piece of my mind too.NHWestoN wrote:On another topic, King's Heavenly encounter with his mother was not exactly the standard Simon-Garfunkel "Mother-and-Child-Reunion". Oh yeh, wolf-style camping is likely to involve more blood and bone and raw terror.
Re: 2018/06/29 - The Fear Of Dog
Agreed, Cody, although I'm not sure, given his recent life choices, would too giddy about describing the human life style to Miles. And, to get back to something fenrirblack said, I've always enjoyed the interactions between King and Miles. Between King's angst and Miles's thoughtful reflections, they're a fun pair at center stage.

Playing video games, eating junk food, and sleeping by day; hunting and prowling the forests and neighborhoods by night. Do you want werewolves, Miles? Because this is how you create werewolves!

Far as I can tell, the only time they were mentioned in-comic was when Joel was expositing his life to the K-9 cops, and all he said was that they had been harsh to his pets.

I can relate them, King and Miles... Not everyone can succeed to make video games playing even a real job, though. Oh, eheh, do camping isn't so much wild like the life of a feral wolf. Looks like camping can become a really fearsome thing. So, your parents kicked you out from home when they were doing camping, King? You were all already out home, somehow.

You just know. You know. You can just tell. In your mind when she speaks you hear this attitude that tells you that she was just horrible. Maybe not abusive but not mother of the year either. In my mind I always imagine her as Narcissa Malfoy. How else do you explain how Joel turned out?
Let’s see and what happened after that. Joel drifted around for years. Got arrested, joined PETA, kidnapped Fox, got arrested again, was imprisoned and tortured for seven months by Pete, and consistently gave off signs of someone who is depressed and bitter with the world. Where were they during all this? Yep, the were just the best parents.Silly Zealot wrote: Joel got kicked when he came of age, likely because his parents thought he would become a slacker otherwise.

Re: 2018/06/29 - The Fear Of Dog
Remember, Joel blamed animals for the problems in his life, not his parents. Joel got kidnapped and abused by his own pets. I mean, he was probably messed up pretty bad after what his pets did to him. What can a parent do when their kid doesn’t really trust anyone anymore? Sure, they probably weren’t good parents, but I doubt that they were terrible parents either. They just did what they thought was best, which King is just now realizing after reflecting on it.
And I’ll bet a lot of that depression and bitterness he had as King was because of the terrible treatment he got from Pete and the secret he had bottled up inside. The rest was probably anger at animals. He mellowed out somewhat after meeting Bailey and even more since the end of the game.

Re: 2018/06/29 - The Fear Of Dog
From a psychological standpoint Joel blames animals because 1. They were the ones who kidnapped him true. 2. At that young age he probably did not know that he should have blamed his parents as well. 3. Adult Joel probably does know that his parents are to blame partly for what happened to him. He can't take his frustrations out on them so he goes for the next best thing. 4. Despite everything he may know that his parents were the source of his problems or at least doesn't admit it in the comics. Because his parents were the the ones who abused the pets so they were the first domino to fall in a sense. 5. There is no indication they were doing anything for the best for Joel. If they wanted what was best for Joel then someone should have asked what happened to him and why he's been missing for nine years. 6. He could be in a state of denial.
All that bitterness started waaaay before he was changed into King. Remember what he was like in Chapter 19. That is not a face of someone who is optimistic about the future or life. He got punched in the face at the first moment we see him (and yes it was hilarious). Pete amplified it for the game. That was the reason Joel was targeted in the first place. Pete didn't need someone happy and sunshine and rainbows. He wanted someone who hated everyone, had no family, home, resented animals, young but not too young, had deep emotional issues, and was conveniently located.

Re: 2018/06/29 - The Fear Of Dog
I dunno, Joel/King seemed genuinely upset with his experiences with animals specifically. I doubt he was projecting his parents onto Bino when he got an explosion to the face (followed by another explosion). http://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/200 ... hed-socks/
Joel/King had a valid reason to hate animals: They hurt him (back when he was a kid, when he was the PETA guy, and when Bino gave him an exploding present), whether his parents were there to start it or not.
I think it helps that he now has a wife who treats him nicely (she saved his watch - you could say it was fate ) and who can beat up the animals who are jerks. Since then, he’s had a lot of positive experiences that have overridden his past bitterness. I think he could still do with some closure on his former humanity, but that will happen with time - he doesn’t need to lick his pups clean just yet.
