Dern. Beat me to the joke I was going to make.

Also, this is the point where we can see how Keene's own personal motives in this are going to end up backfiring for him really badly.

Panel 1: Arrogant Thomas
Panel 2: Conspiratorial Thomas
Panel 3: Slightly Unhinged/War Flashback Thomas

Two thoughts. A. Thomas has reached super villain crazy. Always nice. B. That face in the second panel looks like a “I need to talk to Steward face.” Like he’s just realizing what I’ve saying for months about the “master plan.” It does look like where getting closer to the “slander the Milton’s” scheme.

I’m sure that at some point that was Keene’s plan

At least Marion isn't buying this even if it's for the wrong reason (unless he's just saying that because it's more polite than "you're crazy, camel man").

Interesting. First off, they didnt, King and Fox got Keene to buy into it, something he wasn't going to do at first. Second, I dont think that Marion is buying into this, but now I'm thinking he doesn't need Marion.

Way, way back, someone suggested that Thomas had a coin of his own. Wonder if he might start transforming zoo patrons, starting with a young woman chatting up a nearby wolf?

I still say it was the badger (again I keep forgetting his name) that did it.

It was Herman Steward. Now he's just Steward.

What does that proverb even mean again, the camel through the eye of the needle? I really don't remember.

Anyhoo, here's a poem!

Thomas seems to have finally lost it,
But we all know he's just playing a bit.
Marion, don't fall for it, please?
It's a trap, you should know that, geez!
I feel like Marion now's just a pawn,
And as we can see, Thomas is too far gone.
I wonder what plans he has up his sleeve
Or if any worries he'll help relieve.
I just can't trust this darn camel,
He doesn't seem a trustworthy mammal.
That grin, well, it just seems insane,
So think for once, Marion, use your brain!
I'm getting an idea of where this is going,
It's gotten all of those anxious juices flowing,
I know we can't yet call it a wrap,
but to quote Admiral Ackbar, Marion, it's a trap!

The worst thing about some big lies
is that they’re mostly made of truth.
Given different perspective
they deflect from the sins of youth.
You know why you were cut, Thomas
and it’s not because of your curse.
In fact, to the old man Milton,
it’s really quite the reverse.
Your greed was a millstone, old pal,
it made you a weight on his soul.
The change gave you new chance…
even if that wasn’t his goal.

... isn't chocolate still poisonous for most pets in the housepets universe? That weirdly be the part that makes me think he's lying. The mention of uptick in human transformations bit makes me think Thomas held onto more coins, he's just not thought to use them until he realizes he could ruin the Milton ferrets with them. Will give Thomas credit though, he picked the best actual facts to put the Milton's motives into question, and as much as I love Keene... being honest he's not above doing what Thomas is suggesting

"It's easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven."
It's basically commenting on how the rich end up loving their money and lose sight of the things that earn eternal rewards. Ha! Now Thomas can fill up both sides of the proverb. It's hard for him to fit through the eye of a needle AND he's a rich man who can't get into heaven.

I was sitting and thinking about what's about to happen, and thinking that we must be close to the close of this part of the arc. Marion may have foreshadowed with his comment about how much damage a camel can do with spit. Assuming that he retained a coin, he could bean Lois with one and thus sent into motion his idea for chaos.

Not certain he'd do it in front of Marion, but if he's lost it he might. Or just wait until they are walking away.

It only matters that it's poisonous if they eat it, and who said anything about that?

Also they have "I can't believe it's not chocolate" in this universe for which saying "chocolate" would be perfectly clear (though "not chocolate" has been used before)

Where my Star Wars references at? Y'all disappoint me :P
Interesting to see Thomas really take a swing at this. Wonder where it will lead :D

Besides, Thomas is more trying Magneto's plot in X-Men here.

CHOCOLATE PUDDING ABATEMENT BUDGET
Uh hmm

a·bate·ment /əˈbātmənt/ noun
(often in legal use) the ending, reduction, or lessening of something.

A chocolate pudding abatement, or a budget for such, seems contrary to anyone's suggestion that it's related to the ferrets' habit of filling swimming pools with gelatinous food so I'm confused by the terminology

Considering Thomas was talking about convoluted and expensive, the budget is probably money allocated towards finding ways to reduce the amount of chocolate pudding in the estate. That would be a needless, convoluted expense, since the obvious solution is to just buy less chocolate pudding. That's my thinking, anyway.

It’s funny when you think about how much Thomas is like a super villain. He’s the Joker and Steward is more like Lex Luthor.

I also want to reiterate how suspicious that second sentence of the second panel is. That’s something you say when the rusty gears in your head start spinning and an idea begins to form. If King was there he would say, “Could you maybe sound a bit less ominous.”
Gbr23 wrote:I’m sure that at some point that was Keene’s plan.
The idea crossed his mind but he also said that he didn’t want to do it because it would essentially be the humans encroaching in the animals territory. Plus Keene’s not an idiot, he’d know that randomly changing people into animals would be a bad idea for a number of reasons. Keene might have been tempted but reason would win out especially considering he doesn’t actually have the means to do it, Steward does.

Personally, I don’t think that Marion is going to buy Thomas’s argument, but Thomas might be getting as idea to seek out Steward, and try to team up with the badger, to get revenge on the Milton’s. We also don’t know what Keene’s scheme is at this point, so Marion might be best served by going to King to talk about things as dr_eirik suggested.

I have long thought that was what he was hoping would happen when he drove into the mana pool. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else he expected.

It's true they had a power source in the temple, but we've never seen it to be used to trasform people into animals... :? You're just speculating, Thomas... Or, if it can really be true, Marion is just the first sperimental victim of that plan, which is starting a bit too late, though... We still need to know how Marion turned into a squirrel. You say that's costly, Marion? I don't really think so, and anyway, the Milton's are rich at an unbelievable level. :P They always liked to do giant food parties, as seems. :D

Now we see that Thomas is slowly but surely drawing Marion deeper into his web of revenge against the Miltons. This is gonna be a train wreck for the Miltons at least initially.

It is getting harder to not expect carp to hit the fan whether or not Marion is going to be at the center of it or not. Theoretically he will be as the first minor changed and press will eat it up. There is still a lack of solid evidence that can tie the Miltons to any future changes though. It'll be hard for anyone to prove that they have something to do with any future plague but their lives will be made much harder as they fight back against the angry tide. On the other hand, they are the only ones who could help the ex-humans which puts them in a particular situation. If this scenario comes true then Housepets will become like the X-Men strangely enough. Marion's animal power, the ability to bite ear lobes and chuck coconuts twice his size.

Yes, but I suppose I should not have expected that anyone would know the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you ;)

Guess I'm the only one making this connection, but Thomas has about the same subtlety here
