Spider bites

Has anyone else here gotten bitten by a spider before?

It's happened to me before, but yesterday I had to go to the hospital for it... Brown Recluse showed me, eh? I even got the joy of my first ambulance ride... -___-;;
I'm doing better (though on bed-rest now until my condition improves), but I still feel like death itself....

So share your stories of getting bitten by spiders/bug/or other animals. How'd that go for you?
Have you ever been taken away from a public place in an ambulance? It's very embarrassing....

Thankfully, no. I've been bitten before, but nothing I had to go to the hospital for.

A very strong arachnophobia has kept me clear of any such situations.
The very sight of them can paralyzes me on the spot.
I realize most of them are about as harmful as ants, but the phobia is subconscious.
It is a real burden when trying to help others in not so clean environments.

I can only imagine what you went through after that bite.
I hope you recover to peak condition soon!

Here we have to worry about Black Widows and Brown Recluses... Neither are really DEADLY (unless you get bit by a few of them), but they will still mess you up. I'm a prime example. xD

I hope you get better soon Lucid.
I got bitten by my sisters dog before and by her parrot as well as my hamsters several times over, but nothing serious (except when my sister frantically used her First Aid kit when her dog bit me but it was nothing really) and I still love animals even if they like to try and gnaw on me

Wow, that's terrible. Those bites can rot you alive I've heard. I'm glad you got attention fast enough; you seem to be in good enough condition to be typing to us. Hope you get better soon!

Went to the hospital when I was younger for bites. We had an older house, and my room was high up, so I would get covered with them while sleeping.

Not the worst spider-related incident that's happened. I had one crawl in my ear and bite around three months ago. I went semi-deaf for about two weeks. Had to take antibiotics and peroxide for my ears. Didn't know it was actually a spider till the peroxide made the spider's body come out another week later.

Between all the stuff spider-related that's happened to me... I'm almost deathly arachnophobic. *Shivers*

I have never gotten a spider bite. I am one with the animal kingdom.

Hah, now I've gone and jinxed it.

I have gotten insect bites, such as chiggers (gah I hate chiggers), but never spiders.

Really? I never knew spider bites could be so serious, so what kind of spiders are the more dangerous ones?

A vast majority of spiders are harmless, and even the ones that bite you are almost never dangerous. Brown recluses, however, are one of the major exceptions. They're pretty rare, though, especially if you keep your house clean and orderly. They're also pretty much exclusive to Midwestern USA (where I live). Black Widows are also spiders to look out for.

I don't have to worry about Brown Relcuses as much because I live on the east coast.

I leave at the beach on the East Coast and we still have to worry about Brown recluses... Those suckers are all over the place, though they tend to be a bit more rare to find.

Black widows, on the other hand, are all over the place here!

Also, Tobee and Sonic... Play nice. :3

I've gotten bit by a ton of things. I'm almost always covered in bug bites or scratches or other minor injuries. But I've never gotten bit by a BR. D: And the only time I've been in the back of an ambulance.... I was...four? I think? Went into respiratory distress. D:

I hope you feel better Lucid. Get better soon, so you can enjoy one of our last mildly-weathered weekends. ;)

Ah, the brown recluse. Not all that dangerous...as long as you aren't in the wilderness when you get bit, and you notice the bite quickly after it happens...

For me, it's not spider bites that are a problem, though...it's mosquitoes! Those nasty little guys used to give me an allergic reaction when I was younger. Caused my left eye to swell shut from one bite.

These days I don't react as badly, but I never go camping without a tent.

Agreeing with Buck's topic as I rarely encounter spiders that bite.

But here we look out for either malaria (never got it) or dengue (got it twice so I'm lucky to be alive.).

I've never got bitten bya spider. I'm even not afraid to take them on my head. But that's because here they are tinny.

But I'm really scared of wasps and hornets. When I was like 3-4 years, they were biting me often. And when I just see one wasp in a room, I get a cold sweat and I just wanna run from there.

My mom is so incredibly afraid of bees, but she refuses to admit it.

I'm actually not afraid of almost anything that people tend to be afraid of. At the same time, while I'm not actually afraid of them, I'm pretty close when it comes to caterpillars and similar creatures. I'm not sure why.

I'm not afraid of bees because they are not aggressive if you won't make them feel in danger.

My mom neither, but she's afraid of blindworms. I try to explain her that those are reptiles, but without legs. But she says that they are slippy and awful ;p

I really like spiders. I think they're cute. Consequently I never avoid them or move them when I see them in my house. I've never been bitten by one either.

I'm allergic to bees, so I'm a bit wary of bees. I got stung once and almost died.

I was bitten by a dog when I was really young.

I get bit by ants all the time. I'm not allergic to fireants or any other ant it seems, so I don't really care about them. I've gotten bit by fleas.

That's about it.

I am always the hippie who wants to remove pests in the least lethal way practical. My mom prefers removing spiders by asphyxiating them with hair spray and then having my dad flush them down the toilet.

Here are the steps I take to remove a spider problem:
1) See the spider.
2) Run to the bathroom and get a piece of toilet paper.
3) Grab the spider with the toilet paper.
4) Throw the toilet paper (with the spider in it) into the toilet.
5) Flush.
