Merchandise Ideas!!
Merchandise Ideas!!
I know the comic is just cruising down the runway right now, but once it takes off, Rick here could make a pretty penny. So I was thinking maybe we could bounce some merchandise ideas off of each other, and Rick if he shows up, so we can brainstorm on how to develop this adorable little corner of the internet.
I was thinking of necklaces depicting the characters collars. He could start off with Grapes fish and Peanuts bone, but eventually he could broaden the spectrum to the majority of the characters.
What do you guys think? Toss some ideas out!

Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
those might be pretty easy to make. with some clay and paint, it shouldn't be too hard to make charms. though i would think that rather than 'grape' and 'peanut' which might be confusing due to their other meanings, the collars could have 'housepets' stamped on one side.
though, making a stamp might be harder.

Though, realistically, I would just stick with Peanuts...

Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
Wow, Peanut's collar would go great with my new dog ears. I would snatch one up as soon as it went on sale.
There are a lot of simple things that he could sell too, like "Pet Adoption Forms" for furries and cosplayers and such or prints of comics. Stuffed animals would be amazing, but probably wouldn't happen for quite some time if at all.

Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
I'd love to see the COLLARS, no their charms. Or a scarf ;D
Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
I am in support of grape/peanut collars.
and also of keychains
but not in support of furry- or cosplaying-oriented store segment
that seems a bit much to plunge into right at the start.
Maybe a jacket or something? That would be good. ouo

Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
I didn't mean it to be like a furry store, I just meant a little something like this. It'd be cute and easy. I just meant that it would interest that part of the readership maybe a bit more than the others. I don't really consider myself a furry, despite the fact that I have a fursona and dog ears (it started as a neko thing, but then I wanted dog ears instead,) but I'd still probably buy one just because. But maybe it's just because I like those sorts of things, I don't know.

Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
I heartily agree with the idea of the necklaces (or even chokers? Face it, I'm sure if Rick made some human-sized versions of the collars of his chars they'd prolly go down well) but you do have to bear in mind little things like how hard they might be to make and a general lack of trust about buying stuff online. There's a reason t-shirts are the most popular merchandise option and it's... well, it's because you can make those through one of many well-used companies people trus (I fully expect to be proven wrong by somebody but that at least is my experience/excuse for not ever selling any merchandise).
Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
do like the most important parts of the strips on shirts... me personally i would want one wif the Pic of Peanut's face when he found out Grape wuz actually a girl
yes... ive been gone a while.... yes its cuz of LK....
Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
Maybe a T-Shirt depicting Grape pasting Bino with the frying pan.
Meow! *Cough* Uh, I mean, Woof.
Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
the problem with t-shirts is that really, you got two options.
1- buy them in bulk, designing yourself, from an actual t-shirt printing company.
these shirts last longer and generally look better, but are paid for straight out of pocket by the webmaster and not on an order-by-order basis. ultimately you pay a higher price for quality, but the variety is smaller. pre-orders work great for this, and seatthole.com is a really reputable company. that's the one i've used whenever i've designed/sold shirts.
2- use a secondary company who makes shirts on an order-by-order basis.
while these shirts have a wider variety in size, colour and design you really are gambling. places like cafepress.com generally will give you shirts that fade after a few washes, if the colours are even visably bright to begin with. you might as well use an iron on. however the webmaster can put together a large variety of shirt designs and build a shop pretty quickly. the other downside is that the middle-man takes a really large slice of profits, so the webmaster rarely makes a good haul out of the sales. if you want instant variety and instant gratification but aren't terribly worried about quality, these are the companies to use.
having designed shirts and using both cafepress and an actual screenprinting company, i really have to say that though it ultimately is a bit more work for the webmaster to take pre-orders etc etc, the screenprinting is the way to go for quality and longevity.
...that said, i think a shirt that just has the caption from sasha's "I WANT YOUR PUPPIES" sign would be great. with all the crossed out letters and stuff.

Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
Well the store I went through is RedBubble. Their stuff is print-on-demand and high-quality, but they're quite a bit expensive
I'm sure the cold hand of science will be able to overcome his magical powers
Re: Merchandise Ideas!!
i've yet to buy anything from redbubble, but hmm. perhaps i ought to just to put one of their shirts through the test.
it's been a while since i've been intentionally brutal on a t-shirt >D

The foam syringe would be an interesting object but the problem is it exists in one strip, if someone hadn't read through the archives they'd be like "WTF does that have to do with anything?"
