Because a call for new mods means a massive power grab. And those are messes.

Yes, but that's not controllable. You can SAY: "the mods need to be more active" all you want and that probably will change nothing. It's a passive attempt. We need to make an active attempt and increase mod activity directly by making some of the most active and trustworthy members mods. Like sleet, for example.

How is it a power grab? The current mods could choose themselves! It's not like we could attempt a coup or something crazy like that on a forum

Either way, to my knowledge, Rick only elects people he knows as mods anyway.

It's not like that isn't preventable. So long as the fact that new mods were being hired was solely told to potential prospects, and there weren't any leaks, no one would know until the new mods were given their newly colored names

Standing up for Cwitt's point of view, when was the last time a real rule was broken here?

And, I mean one that actually needs to be taken down immediately? Most broken rules are trivial, and are only a tad annoying. I've not seen a major rule being broken for a long time. There's really no need to do much. There's already too many mods on the forum, even if they're not always on.

That is a very, very good point. The overwhelming majority of warnings and mod edits I've seen were for the minor rules. The only major rule I've seen broken is mini-modding, and I don't think there have been any major violations of the "not to be discussed" topics recently. They've been touched on, sure, but infrequently. And of those violations, most of them are committed by new members who get the warning and then don't do it again! Seriously, this forum has some of the most friendly, well-behaved people, and I don't think that's acknowledged often enough.

We do pop in and look around, you know, even if we don't post! *shakes fist* But yes, I will be attempting to post a bit more often. The "problem" of inactive moderators has been discussed at length, believe me- when you say something, you are heard. We're still trying to figure things out, kinda, but the general agreement is that right now we don't need anymore mods- maybe another one in the future, as the forum gets bigger. We're still discussing it- but, trust me, you all will know if/when we get new mods.
