I think the biggest thing keeping me from following more sports is that I don't really enjoy watching most events on tv. I've gone to a fair number of UW Madison hockey games (considering I didn't go there for college). Those were a blast. Now that I am where the Wild are however... I really ought to attend some NHL games.
Re: Chat Thread 38: You Guys Are Old

I don't know, you can get a hydrophobic coating on some metals as far as I am aware.

all things should be hydrophobic unless it specifically needs to not be.
I've seen the coating applied to shoes and clothing as well. white shoes + hydrophobic coating + chocolate syrup = no stains. The Grey Wolverine wrote:I don't know, you can get a hydrophobic coating on some metals as far as I am aware.

Sounds groovy. However, I believe it was a double barrel shotgun.

I always wondered why they stopped at two barrels and never went for the triple barreled shotgun. I can't imagine it'd be terribly functional but hey it'd be pretty cool.

I believe triple-barrel shotguns exist. They are, as you can guess, impractical. At the very least, it's harder to engineer durably.

Yet another reason more people from around here should be hired. I've seen some stunning ideas for cartoons and tv shows from people on DeviantART and other Forums, so it astounds me that there is still so little good programming on TV when there is all this creativity on the internet. Yet another reason I'm pitching a couple of my scripts to Cartoon Network(?) this summer. I'm not complaining or anything, it just feels really strange to have been posting on a forum for a reletively long time and still have a low post count. Hence the feeling of insignificance.
The only reason I brought it up is because this is the first forum I've ever seen do something link that. I mean, I've been a mod on a couple forums, and although the idea was tossed around between us on one of them, this is the first I've ever seen of a forum actually going through with it. The idea still seems kinda strange to me thats all, especially since when we did talk about it on the old Wisdom Crieth Without forum, no one could see a real reason for doing it.
What is the reason anyways? Just easier for organization?

Re: Chat Thread 38: You Guys Are Old
My guess would be people constantly spamming the Fun&Games section purely for the sake of upping their post count. There are plenty of people who find having a high post count to be an indicator of popularity or importance on forums, so they have no problem with doing nothing but spamming every forum game available just to get their count higher than everyone else.
It's easier on the bandwidth of the site, and helps to keep spamming in check.
Feel free to correct me if I'm off-base, of course.

That's pretty much why we set up the Forum Games sub-forum in the first place; till then, the game threads were all in the main "Not the Comic" forum.

Re: Chat Thread 38: You Guys Are Old
Well I had to google it but it was Dominick Hasek. Who won two cups with detroit ('o2 and '08) , always had a pretty cool helmet in my opinion, and gets bonus love for me for not becoming a star until he left chicago. Buffalo would struggle to find a reliable starting goalie after tradng him for a 1st round pick and slava kovlov (who was at the time a young seth's favorite player because he had a cool visor)until they drafted former MSU Spartan Ryan Miller, who was the starter in the suprise Untied states 2010 silver medal run. (that however was all off the top of my head )RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote: who won the Vezina in 2000?

Re: Chat Thread 38: You Guys Are Old
Easy, Olaf Kolzig won it that year. It was just one of his many exceptional seasons with the Washingon Capitals. He was also one of the two Washington Capitals goaltenders to win the Vezina over the previous 7 years, and were the only goalies not named Dominic Hasek to win the trophy over those 8 seasons from 1994-2001. Its a real shame too, Jim Cary (the other Capital's goalie to win the award) really didn't deserve it, and Felix Potvin really should have won it at least once during that time.RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:who won the Vezina in 2000?TheMobian wrote:Thats a lot like me actually, I'm a complete encyclopedia for Hockey Goaltender knowledge. Anyways, back on Olaf Kolzig, he won 41 out of over 70 games that season (I forget the exact amount) And finished with a save percentage of .917 ( i forget his GAA, Losses, and ties for that season) I believe he also had 5 or 6 shutouts.
Another interesting fact, he is the only NHL player to be born in Africa. Although he technically isn't African, his nationality is really German (his parents we're on a missions trip in south africa when they gave birth to him).
Still couldn't believe it when they traded him to Tampa Bay near the end of his career, They should have let him play his full career in Washington...
EDIT: Almost forgot to add this!
HE had three nicknames over his career, "Kolzig the Gorilla", "Godzilla", and "Oli the Goalie".
And here was have an awesome vide of Oli, whom I still consider one of my all time favourites, and one of the most exciting to watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGPmJ-71chc
Another random fact I forgot, he scored a goal back in Junior for Tri-city http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCJ6XNdbU94
