Re: Russian Translations
I would like to read Houspets! in Russian (I don't care if I don't fully understand Russian, I can learn something, right?), oh! and I think that translation is wrong... or my dictionary is...
EDIT: wait, I think I'm the one who is wrong, that means that the translation is maybe right!

Hello comrades!
So, russian translation is already in progress!
102 strips are already translated.
You can check here:
https://www.housepets.furries.ru/
I'm native speaker. Moreover, Housepets isn't my first experience.
So don't worry about the quality

Re: Russian Translations
Holy Wow! When did this happen?!?
No earthly idea what it says, mind you, but I will definitely look at all the pretty Cyrillic letters sounding them out ever so slowly like some 5 year old child
Thank you for your contribution

Re: Russian Translations
can I ask about little help?
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/03/ ... the-drain/
can somebody explain me, what means Peanut's words: "No fair betting half of that with Max!"?

Re: Russian Translations
I think it means this:
Grape and Max each bet $5, so Peanut had to pay $10 when he lost, but Grape would have only had to pay $5 if she had lost.
Peanut believes this is a bit unfair

Re: Russian Translations
I have a question to people, who tried to learn russian language: is it hard to learn?
Re: Russian Translations
I have not personally tried to learn Russian (yet), but I have heard from others that it is. And looking briefly over an online Russian learning site, I believe that it would be difficult because there are so many ways to conjugate so many different parts of any one sentence.
But I think once you got the hang of it, it wouldn't be so bad. (Though how long it might take one to get the hang of it, well... )

Re: Russian Translations
Well, my friend was learning it long time ago, for him it wasn't very difficult. It was difficult but not so much. The only problem is that our language (we're both living in Poznań) is a little related with russian, there're a lot of differences between both languages, but in some way they're related.

Re: Russian Translations
I am learning Russian and it is a little bit hard. I learned Cyrillic first (Russian letters), then tried to read some stuff in Russian. Now, I know more about the basics of the language, but I have trouble with the rules.
It's a little bit hard, but practice makes perfect... almost.

Re: Russian Translations
I'm learning Russian as well, and My only issue is that I have ADHD.
I'd love to have the Russian and English versions of what you say, so I can
learn in the way of knowing what is said and what it means. Don't bother if
you feel like it's to much work.
Also, nice work on the translations, even if I can't even understand it.
I just know it's in Russian.

Re: Russian Translations
Erm... Just wondering - is there anyone working on the Russian translation right now? The one that is linked here stopped updating after the 9th of July 2010 strip, and I could try my hand in continuing this job, if it would be needed. I also could use some advices on the 'technology' itself, since I'm new to comic translations
Yes, that is about the best thing to write that I could think of.
Re: Russian Translations
You'd need an image editor.
Photoshop can be expensive, so if you don't have it and don't plan on using it outside translations...
Gimp is a fairly good open source editor and is free.
Paint.net is also good (and free) for simple things like changing word bubbles.
Basically just don't use the paint program that comes with Windows because it doesn't have layers. Once you put something down, you can't move it. Which can get annoying with something like fitting words into a speech bubble.
It's important to NOT save the image as a jpg/jpeg
Use png
Translation doesn't require much in depth understanding of technical stuff, so it can be pretty easy to get into. It just requires you to enjoy doing it and not get overwhelmed by the large amount of strips to translate. That way you don't burn out and give up on it.
And I don't know about it's update status, since it was all off-site and I don't know Russian well enough to really follow it.

Re: Russian Translations
you can also use pixlr. Is a image editor online very similar to photoshop so if you know how to use this last one then you shouldn't have any complication using it. Also, you can adjust the language really easily, so if you want to put it in Russian it would be just two clicks.
This is the tool -> http://pixlr.com/editor/
I hope this could help you, and good luck with the translation if you decide to do it. Sometimes is really difficult if you ask me, but it's a lot of fun too.

Re: Russian Translations
So you've thought that I tried to translate a couple of strips, and then decided that it was too difficult to bother with?
Actually, it kinda hapenned, but then I decided that it's too sad to leave everything unfinished. That someone who did the translation before dropping it in 2012 sisn't even finish the arc! So I'll try to translate a few strips, and at least finish a couple of arcs. After that I'll choose if I wish to keep on doing this.
And let this stay here, because there are too many 'words -only' posts in this thread. Nothing special, just picking up from where it all stopped.
Made with some free time, 2 glasses of orange juice and a few bits and pieces from even earlier strips.

Re: Russian Translations
Well, it seems that I start to like doing these translations . The only frustrating part is fitting the words into their place, while trying to make them sound like something that you could have said, but... Practice makes perfect, I guess?
Anyways, let's finish the arc's translation!
14/07/10 (Bye-bye, 9-tailed fox thingie?)
16/07/10
19/07/10 (the alt text is a song lyrics, I guess? I didn't find a nice way to translate this, sorry)
21/07/10
23/07/10
P.S. Did anyone figure out the song from the 30/07/10 strip, or I should just randomly pick something for Grape to hum?

I would presume you'd just transcribe all the DA's as ДА's and all the BA's as БА's. As far as I can tell, it was never officially identified.

Good to see you've take the role of Russian translator, it's always a shame when people abandon a project unfinished. I hope you can make this project progresses, for sure a lot of Russians will be grateful for your efforts. I wish you the best of luck.

Re: Russian Translations
The problem is that I don't know any other Russian-speaking people here, and nobody has written in the thread on the Russian forums for nearly a year, so I don't think there are any readers there as well. But anyways, great thanks for encouragement!
Let's go forward, for the sake of progress and post count!

All right, I'll try translating 1-3 strips per day, depending on my mood and busyness
26/07/10 (Not the longest translation ever)
I hope I'm doing it right.

Re: Russian Translations
What does 'You got some serious air' from 2/8/10 strip (beginning of the arc#33) means?!
And while I'm waiting for the answer, here's the weirdest thing I've had to translate so far!

Oh, so there's no sneaky second meaning this time? Yay!
All right, then I'll upload the continuation a few hours later)
P.S. What is the 'label' on the dart board (presumably) from the next (4/8/10) strip?
P.P.S. Why didn't I ask this question when I was reading the whole comic for the first time?!

what matters is that you like to do this and we enjoy the result. And, especially, that eventually someone will peek this thread. Advertising it is important. If you have a FB profile, I guess it's no shame if you say what you're doing

Re: Russian Translations
1)I've got no Facebook account Maybe it's time to sign up there, but I don't know anyone to advertise the translations to, so it sounds useless. Correct me, if I'm wrong!
2)The question I had to ask was actually about all these ununderstandable phrases that I've noticed just now
3)Thanks once again for all the kind words (quite a few here)
4)I still wonder what is the label of a dart board(or something else from 4/8/10). I'm quite scared of translating it based on how I feel it, because it will probably be inaccurate

Re: Russian Translations
So basically they had 1000 ideas for themes put on a dart board, Duke threw a dart, and it hit the label with "theme parks" on it. So the theme is theme parks by sheer luck (un-luck?).

Update - OK, They'll upload first couple of strips to see what audience thinks. I hope everything goes smoothly.
