Re: What's today?
On December 16th, 1773 a group of Americans known as the Sons of Liberty were so fed up with British taxes that they decided to rebel: That evening they dressed up as Mowhawk warriors, boarded three docked British ships, and dumped some 342 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. This event came to be known as the Boston Tea Party.
Douglas isn't my real name, but because of a name block put on me by a higher-order being known as Djinni, I can't say my real name.

Re: What's today?
Since I solved it yesterday, I'm going to do December 17th's What's Today. Here's the first clue:
Douglas isn't my real name, but because of a name block put on me by a higher-order being known as Djinni, I can't say my real name.

Re: What's today?
First successful powered and contolled flight - plenty of people had already tried powered flights with very limited success, but none of them were effectively controlled. The Wright Brothers used a wing warping system to control roll the aircraft and elevators to control pitch. But you got it, Arcwolf!

I'm here, reading it, but I don't have any clue presently...
Re: What's today?
Sorry fellas! I might've picked a bit of an odd one.
December 19th 1903 was the birthdate of
Cyril D. Darlington who helped discover the mechanics of chromosomal cross-over.
Christmas fact!

Re: What's today?
Hmmm...maybe that was harder than I thought. The event itself is actually 2 steps (maaaaaaybe 3?) from the original pic.
Okay, hint time!
Actually just the original picture but zoomed out, so you get a larger scope. Try not to get thrown off track!

Re: What's today?
That looks a lot like Antarctica to me. I'd love to visit there!
Just like the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen did on January 14, 1911, when he first landed on the Eastern edge of the Ross Ice Shelf.

Re: What's today?
You got that so fast! You did not fall into my trap of using a photo of Troll research station, Queen Maud Land. Queen Maud Land first claimed by Norway 14th January 1939.

Re: What's today?
Well done, deepskycyan!
That chair is known as "King Edward's Throne" and it was commissioned in 1296. Since 1308 every English monarch has been coronated while sitting on it. How would it feel, do you think, to sit in a 600 year old chair and know that you're being given power and authority over a dominion a millennia in the making?

Re: What's today?
I knew that throne looked familiar! I've visited Westminster Abbey before, but they (fortunately) don't allow visitors to sit in it. Would be pretty cool though.
Oh hey, it's still the 15th!
