This is starting to look like a Looney Toons skit
Re: 2016/02/15 - Closes A Door, Opens A Window
Okay, that's pretty funny.

THERE IS NO ESCAPE
Re: 2016/02/15 - Closes A Door, Opens A Window
Well, things just aren't working out. Can't do much in the trailer, a lot of the supplies are gone, so there's the risk of the wait not being worth it.

I have a bad feeling about this...IdleCurator wrote:It's a trap!!!!Gbr23 wrote:THERE IS NO ESCAPE
Trapped in the plushest prison,
A pampered prisoner must escape;
To see what’s happening out there
And if her house survived its’ scrape.
How long was she pushing buttons
Before the roof gave way?
How loudly did the radio blare?
Is that why Zach ran away?
Natalie here knows all the tricks;
It’s why she’s sitting on air.
Protecting her prey, doing her job,
Pity we know she doesn’t care.

Is it just me or does what Natalie said have a kinda disturbing implication. It seems to suggest humans still actively hunt in a setting where the animals are just as smart as humans. Maybe I'm reading that wrong though. I really hope so.
Wonderful! Time for a celebration... Cheese for everyone! Wait, scratch that. Cheese for no one. That can be just as much of a celebration, if you don't like cheese, true?
Re: 2016/02/15 - Closes A Door, Opens A Window
I thought that was pretty much confirmed. We've seen individuals eat meat in comic a few times.

Yeah they eat meat but I thought it was implied in an earlier strip that animals like cows aren't as intelligent as the rest. But what Natalie seems to be implying is that they still hunt for animals like possums and other woodland critters.D-Rock wrote:I thought that was pretty much confirmed. Natalie's just being extra cruel because she's not with Satau. =3
Douglas isn't my real name, but because of a name block put on me by a higher-order being known as Djinni, I can't say my real name.

Re: 2016/02/15 - Closes A Door, Opens A Window
It can be assumed that most interactions involving animals and humans are still present in this world, however only a few of the "not-so-nice" ones have really been confirmed. Though since this is a PG comic I doubt a lot of those will ever be mentioned even if they DO happen.Sheogorath wrote:Yeah they eat meat but I thought it was implied in an earlier strip that animals like cows aren't as intelligent as the rest. Chickens are implied to be sentient, judging from the what chicken. As mentioned, seems like everything still pretty much works like in the real world.

The sentient animals still eat each other as well. In a certain way of thinking, it works the same way.

Re: 2016/02/15 - Closes A Door, Opens A Window
Ha ha! Natalie keeping the trailer on lockdown! Poor Jessica.
Hmm -- re Sheogorath post's above...perhaps now is a good time to once more bring up my suggestion in fan works for a crossover with our-world Buffy stumbling into the Housepets! universe as a sort of 'Whedon-verse' inverted; Here, it's humans at the top of the sapient food chain. People didn't seem to get the comparison then, but does it make sense now that the comic's had some more time to develop?
It's fun to play with the dynamics of the odd morality of this universe - look at the family friendly Squeak and Joey, or Squeak's( I think it was )little demonstration of what cats are 'good for', then consider say some of Lyn Gala's( very not PG )Spike/Xander fics( if you don't know and don't feel like looking up her - quite good - works, just use your imagination ) Does the fact that the state of nature and( much of ) man's relationship with it in this universe is far from desirable in the 'first, best' version of things make anybody in particular a murderer? Or is it just the practical way of things in this universe? Then there's the issues of animal husbandry/'eugenics', and of course overlapping with that comes the buying and selling of 'beasts of burden', and....
I've thought for years that the rules of this universe leave a lot of scope for far more nuanced, serious and grown-up-y fun fic than the happy-go-lucky charm of the immediate setting and plot would suggest - even including the excellent, more serious works that are available from the community. Anybody with more time and patience than I want to have a go?

Grape eats a mouse within the first few arcs. One of the Bigglesworths seemed to have the same intention in the arc where Spo and Squeak first meet.Sheogorath wrote:Well now I'm never going to be able to look at this world the same. Oh well. To quote the aforementioned Grape arc:
Grape wrote:It's a shame, we might have real social progress one day if it weren't for that pesky food chain.

Ya know I really wasn't expecting a discussion on the morals of society and food chain of the Housepets! universe to be brought up on such a cute and simple strip.

If you want a strip that takes on the idea of predation amongst the species and how it must change, Doc Rat is this away ----------->. www.docrat.com.au
Let's keep Housepets how we like it, hmm?

That strip reminds me of an old droopy cartoon, where the villain tried to escape, but Droopy somehow always magically catches up. I think it's a nice tribute to those cartoons. You have to hand it to Natalie, she is pretty smart

Probably perspex or acrylic. You can get a meter-wide dome like that for under $200.Unusuallynamedperson wrote:Wait....where can I buy a glass dome like that?
Or you can get this amazing gadget...
Or it's an Ohmu eye-shell borrowed from Nausicaa.
Re: 2016/02/15 - Closes A Door, Opens A Window
Eheh, this is too much a comical sketch. That's very good, Jessica, you found the command to open that top window, but is really going to be easy to escape from the trailer? You're really cool, Natalie. Poor Jessica, literally trapped (with her tail, too).

The speech bubbles conveniently block out the bubble in the widest panel of the trailer.

Sleet assumes that the bubble has been there since the trailer was first shown in the comic. in that first strip, the speech bubbles are covering up the roof.SuperStar wrote:Eh, what does that mean exactly?Sleet wrote:The speech bubbles conveniently block out the bubble in the widest panel of the trailer.

I think Jess has met her match in terms of snark. :3
She should just go back downstairs and snuggle Zach some more.
