Re: HPU:Richmond Acres OOC
So I've been trying to figure out a good backstory for Flash in particular, and things keep pointing to him being a lab mouse.

Re: HPU:Richmond Acres OOC
In case anyone missed it, Paul brought two cats back to the clinic after the massacre at the silo - Nola, and an unnamed cat.
The unnamed cat died from his injuries and Nola's owner said he'd pay for a proper funeral for him.
So that's what the funeral was. I figured such a nice gesture wouldn't go unnoticed, especially in a small place like this.
The total time jump we've done is 3 days which is enough that the injured pets can get back into the game, albeit painfully.

Sent a quick (hah!) PM to Hlaroo and will wait for reply before posting.
I like the idea but I'm not sure a city mayor can declare a NATIONAL day of mourning. Possibly a citywide.

I decided Flash's yellow text was too hard to read, so I darkened it to be more orange.

Actually, I looked it up and they can. It's not officially a national day and they can't force anyone to observe it but they call it that anyway because it sounds more important.Welsh Halfwit wrote:I like the idea but I'm not sure a city mayor can declare a NATIONAL day of mourning. Re: HPU:Richmond Acres OOC
Just popping this in here. That 'message to Hlaroo' I mentioned earlier was 'should Thomas make a speech'? Hla wasn't sure but said it might be interesting to see anyhow. So here it is.
---------------------------------------------------
Thomas made his way to the podium, looking a little nervous at the crowd they'd drawn. He hadn't really prepared anything because, as far as he'd known, it would just have been a few there. They'd had a few more than planned. He looked to the crowd "Hello," he said simply. "I'm Thomas, Nola's..." He held out a hand towards the Feline sat next to Sally and smiled slightly as the recipient of his gesture cringed slightly. He paused for a second. "...family," he said eventually, drawing a pricked ears from Nola and a slight smile. "You know it's strange. We go don to the pound or to the shelter and we sign these forms, these papers. And they're not called 'Foster forms', no. They're called 'adoption papers'. And yet those we adopt from these places we rarely call 'sister' or 'brother' or 'daughter' or 'son', we have this word for them. 'Pet'. It's not a word that stands for anything more than reminding us there is a gap between them and us that we feel they need to maintain. It's as though they are second class people. But they're still adoption papers. They're still family. You're still supposed to love them. Like family. I made a mistake once and I only got reconnected with my Feline sister there by chance - the same chance that explains the blind mouse on my Sister Sallys' head, by the way - and we are here because other people have not had that chance.
They... never got lucky. You see... there aren't many places these lost guys can go. There are the pounds, of course, but those places are under staffed, overloaded, under funded and, quite basically, reminiscent of battery farms and prisons with all those cages. That is an answer but it cannot be THE answer. What that answer is?" He shrugged. "I don't know. I can't tell you. But I can tell you this. There are smart people out there with money or influence enough that they COULD take action.
They can sponsor centres to help the traumatised pets that have been abandoned by people who feel they can no longer keep this family member. They can sponsor phonelines that lost pet... lost people of all sorts can call if they want to talk to anyone or even if they just want people elsewhere to know they're OK. There are things that CAN be done and they SHOULD be done and they WILL be done if enough people tell them to. Government of the people. For the people. By the people. That's what they say.
These guys can't vote. I've still seen them campaigning for politicians. These guys aren't Human. But we call them Feline Americans. Or Canine Americans. Or Lapine Americans. We attach that word because it's supposed to mean something. American. They are American. They are people. We need to stop losing them like this. There's someone out there doesn't know their family member is never coming back. For their sake. For ours. Let's try and stop this happening again."
So, what do you think of that?

Re: HPU:Richmond Acres OOC
depends on if it's going anywhere, on one hand i think it's a unique idea, since this would be the only RP depicting the start of an "animal equality movement" sort of thing if I remember correctly, the rest are either don't have that going on, or it's already an established thing (BoH, ChiRes if anyone even remembers that one, and Steelhaven to a certain extend).
On the other hand, I feel like it's quite an ambitious thing to be hinting at, and while I'm wholeheartedly supporting the idea, I'm not sure if the GM or everyone else would like to see it going all the way, and if not then I personally would be pretty disappointed.

Re: HPU:Richmond Acres OOC
I have no problem with an animal rights movement in the rp. I think it'd have to be a running theme though rather than a single arc. It's not the sort of thing that would be resolved quickly.

Re: HPU:Richmond Acres OOC
(Would like to know if I need any details changed to make this character work better in the setting, but here’s my character sheet submission)
Name: Rudder Damwell
Species: Eurasian Otter
Age: 21 otter years (6 human years)
Appearance- Brown fur, wears a blue cloak with gold trim at the lower areas.
Personality: He puts on a bit of a persona on of a an out of place but chivalrous knight around others, but this is kinda a remnant of how he acting in his performing days when he was a circus animal. When his persona breaks he reveals a bit more ill temptered and rash personality. Both sides of him are ultimately kind hearted though. He gets very excited when given the chance to show off his swordsmanship.
Other notes: -he came to Richmond to retire to the town’s zoo... then found out there was none.
-While he has legitimate swords skills, being unaware that most of his opponents in circus acts were not taking him seriously, he often doesn’t realize when he’s challenging someone beyond his level.
-He has a mild addiction to spicy food, being easily tempted by anything people mention they put jalapeños in.
[edit] -He lives with the town’s new vet, Sue Keeper. She’s been his own vet for about 6 months, but has only owned him for about half of that. On official documents he shares her last name, but Sue let him keep his full stagename from the circus by making his middle name Damwell.
-While not by any means a replacement for a vet, having been trained as a therapy animal and taught basic first aid, he can help with recovery from basic mental, emotional, or physical issues a pet deals with
-Both he and his owner live in house #18 (unless I’m told that one is taken and I missed it)
SPECIAL
S-7 "Yeah it's a pretty heavy sword, but I can manage it"
P-5 "I mean, I think I saw that"
E-3 "Gah! Bad time for my scar to start aching!"
C-10 Lets little pets when in a play duel with him
I-7 "Little mouse, let's be honest here, that cat won't let you put the bell on it... however if you gave it to their owner perhaps"
A-8 Parries and dodges a few strikes at him
L-2 Crying pitifully as he trips over his own tail

Re: HPU:Richmond Acres OOC
That's a great, concise little sheet there. Well done.
I just have three quick questions. Why has he retired from the circus and why would he go to a zoo that doesn't exist? Also will he have an owner in RA or will he be a stray?

Hmm, I’ll admit I may have just been pleased with the backstory at that point that I didn’t about that stuff yet. On why he retired, let’s say he got a notable injury while in one of his acts or during practice, like let’s say he was practicing with a tiger or lion cub (dull non-cutting blade of course) and either the cub got a swipe at him out of fear, or momma or daddy didn’t realize their cub was in no danger and mauled the poor otter. I think I can answer the next two answers at the same time, his new owner works as a zookeeper, Rudder didn’t assume that otters could be registered as pets so he just put 2 and 2 together. Those responses work well for you? Think I’ll add to his description that if he takes off his cloak you’ll note a large scar on the right side of his chest

Re: HPU:Richmond Acres OOC
He looks pretty ok, just that i don't think the "zoo keeper" bit is needed, since while Rudder is retired, his owner probably still has to make a living, and being a zookeeper with no zoo is kind of a bad condition for that. Maybe if his owner decided to find another job in town as well that might go a little smoother. Being a swordsman and a circus performer, it's kinda interesting that Rudder only has 3 in endurance, so there's that as well, but maybe his injury would explain that.
Regardless, welcome my friend, hope we'll have you here for a long and enjoyable time.
Speaking of time, guys, I think there's a plan for a speech somewhere in the town about animal equality in the current morning of the RP , right ?
