Going to the gods with the Grecian urns
is one of the ways through history.
Why none have shown with Pete’s face
is just yet another new mystery.
Valerio and Jonas paint the scene
where Pete popped out for a short while;
before Zachary opened up the way
even this bird needed to smile.
“beware of Gryphons eating Grapes”
should be the legendary warning
as, if Pete’s there, at your feast,
you probably won’t see morning...

Me, a Pete fanboy: squee

For a second, I thought this was a canon strip before realizing it’s still Guest Week. I want him back, darn it.

Same here.

Looking at it again, I wouldn't mind worshiping Pete. Maybe we could start a church or something.

I see I'm not the only one who thought this was canon at first... what a great guest strip, Jonas and Valerio!

I'm not used to seeing human faces,
But at least this one's in Pete's good graces,
Pete, quit trying to destroy society,
If you do, you'll be punished mightily.
I wonder when Pete is in the past
Or just how long civilization will last.
With the Gryphon around, who knows?
And how long until Pete's true nature shows?
You're a wonderful person! You can do this! Yes, you, person reading this!

I just have a feeling that if we ever found ourselves in a society where people turned into furries, you'd see hair dressers that would sculpt abs into your fur.

wait wait. Cerberus is/was guardian of the underworld? when did she transfer to heaven? and how? based on how the green fox celestial said at one point, celestials aren't really very familiar with pandemonium, so, seems like there's not much interaction between heaven and pandemonium

maybe they just have a policy of just going with mortal religions, and not letting the mortals really get to know them. Kitsune might be exceptional in that regard

I can't recall the strip, but she is promoted at some point during the early-ish run of the comic. It's actually kind of a sad comic because she is telling someone in a narration that she never got to work with kids as she takes a puppy to Heaven and gives them a cookie.

Edit: I sometimes forget that it's easy to find strips like this with some characters.

She dated and broke up with Pete while she was still in service of Hell as he was surprised to see her in Heaven back when Joel's fate was initially brought in. He realized it was a promotion, and Cerberus told Keene this as well.

Since this scene is set in the ancient times, then Cerberus will have to remain on diet for some millennium... :P Pete is only hunger, probably. :D You do parties on human's wars, Pete? Wow... What's the point of the bottomless vases, though?

May not bee too entirely long, depending on if "your civilization" is referring to humanity as a whole, or this guy's (what I'm assuming is probably) Greek civilization.

Naw, during the 5000 B.C. arc, somehow Pete hears about a purple cat, then just kind of dismisses it as interesting. It's certainly not impossible that this fellow is related in some way to Earl (though the alt-text dismisses that)

Come to think about it, it works in HP too....

Fox: Bino! I haven't seen you in a while. Are you working out?
Bino: Of course. I've always worked out. You don't get a body like this without hard work.
Max: Don't listen to him, he's been sculpting his fur with dads electric razor.
Bino: MAX!

I don't think he was stealing her job, just eating her offerings. That's why he wanted a war, since she's go off her diet once their civ collapsed.

Here is something I didn't really think about until later: Everyone acknowledges Pete in what I interpet as a dull, monotonous greating rather than by shrieks of terror. Like Joel who merely said. "You're not my lawyer." or King later, "You're not supposed to me here." That feels like a running joke I only just picked up on.

In real life wolves don't have that much abdominal muscle, let alone the definition shown in the comic. They're endurance predators that take down exhausted pray with jaw strength. We just don't bring it up often because a pack of wolves with pecs make a convincing argument all on their own.
Amazee Dayzee wrote:I guess that is Pete knowing about Grape and Peanut because their owner was an ancestor who gave him lots of food and he probably sort out the ancestor first confirmed. LOL
The fanbase has a tendency to assume prehistoric characters are related to the modern cast, but the title text preempts us by nipping that in the bud.
dr_eirik wrote:I don't think he was stealing her job, just eating her offerings. That's why he wanted a war, since she's go off her diet once their civ collapsed.
I think the train of thought in the last line might not be that a war will end his civilization and bring Cerb back, but that a war will cause a lot of people to die thus bringing him enough offerings of food to furnish a party.
The cape comes with the promotion.

Humans are also endurance predators, they just use tools instead of teeth. It's one reason humans and wolves were such effective partners fifty thousand years ago they ended up domesticating each other. Other animals had to wait for humans to start farming and herding and hanging around in one place before they could join the party.

It doesn't matter. While we of course prefer posts to be related to the topic at hand, a message or two in an unrelated thread are minimally disruptive. However, conversation absolutely grinds to a halt and the risk for hostility increases tremendously when someone takes rules enforcement into their own hands. Years ago, there was a prohibition on mini-modding specifically to keep this sort of thing from happening.

We tend to take a pretty laissez-faire approach to moderation here; we've found it's healthier for a community to not be overly-policed than to breathe down everyone's necks over minor infractions. Technically, posting in the wrong thread isn't even against the rules (Please don't make me regret saying that, y'all). However, when you see something you think violates our guidelines, we encourage you to file a report. When a report comes in, we usually discuss its contents in our Telegram group. When possible, we like to moderate by consensus. We consider the severity of an issue and its likely impact on the community. When we've come to a decision, either we take action against the reported post or we close the report without doing anything, which is why you may notice a post you reported is left alone. We don't always all agree, but rarely will Rick or I pull the dictator card and go against the prevailing opinion, especially if doing so means overruling the people we've entrusted to shepherd our community just so we can smack someone over a triviality.

As a refresher, these are the discussion guidelines:

I wrote:Welcome to Housepets!
  • Be kind and respectful.
  • When posting, consider the family-friendly and non-controversial nature of the comic. If you're not sure something is OK to include, feel free to PM a moderator.
  • Please do your best to post legibly and coherently. If you post in a language other than English, please provide a translation. Some people have trouble seeing very bright or small text, so thanks in advance for avoiding those. Also, if you'd like to post on a topic and you're the author of its most recent reply, we ask you to use the edit button on your existing post instead of double-posting.

At our discretion, we may remove posts we feel do not contribute to a positive user experience. Accounts which nitpick or post bitter rants about the comic may be suspended.

Please do not use the public forum or private message (PM) system to do anything illegal, advertise for other Web sites or chat groups that exist solely to subvert our rules, or subject us to DDoS or other attacks.

If you see a post or private message (PM) you think is inappropriate, or which doesn't meet these guidelines, please report it; if you have questions about the rules or moderator activity, please refer to our Rules and Moderator Discussion forum.
Anyone with aspirations of joining my team would be well advised to consider whether the letter or spirit of a rule is more important and act accordingly. At the end of the day, I'm here so people have a safe, fun place to talk about Rick's comic. I ain't here to quote rules and threaten folks and get in debates that are more disruptive the original "offense."
