I love the doctor's blank look in panel three.
Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
Interesnting Vet we have here, old school vet. Not that theres something wrong with that.
Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
I can't tell if the vet is supposed to be like Clint Eastwood were he's rather rough and rude, and yet a good guy. Or if he's just a jerk.

Love that "I don't want to live on this planet anymore" look in the last panel.
You know, you'd think King would have known that this would happen with a vet, especially since pets are still just pets there. At the same time, one would think that the vet would know the situation of the Wolf house already, unless this is his first time there.

Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
Strange... Shouldn't this vet know something about the Wolf House by now?
I mean, the Miltons made it clear to the public that Wolf house has no Human Owners.
Plus, Bailey's marriage was also public (Keene made sure it was on live Telly, the only thing that Jerkwad did good on). Either the Doc doesn't care, or he's just a quack with a veterinary license.

Oh dear. He's trying to be imperial,
this foolish, educated, old man.
One thing that he's not counted on
is that Wolves never go to plan.
He's Human so he rules the room
at least in the confine of his mind
but, if he missed the wedding hoopla,
he's more like willingly blind.
The arrogance of the man in the house,
obeying the established rules.
Those who refuse to see things change
are often left behind, poor fools.

I wonder how did this guy get that job in Babylon Gardens of all places. Heck, event Grape's vet had a better attitude. Either he was assigned by its study or King should have checked better. By law and 'tradition', pets can be considered 'just animals', but you'd EXPECT that a veterinary, of all professionals, can respect the animals' point of view and reasons. This guy is acting as if he was dealing with barking puppies.

He really shouldn't be ordering an entire pack of wolves around like that...

Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
I figured he would at least let the girls stay and King, but it looks like he's got the pup ownership mentality down already, which you can't blame him for.
Let's say Bill was there, i doubt he would ask questions and just get straight to the delivery and hand them to Bill afterwards.

OK , well ; this vet is really acting as a jerk now , forgetting he's in a wolf pack's house
If nothing happens soon (as him revealing he's Pete mortal form , for example) , i bet he'll be soon punched and kicked out

I am suddenly OK with something violent happening to the vet.
Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
I can understand that: in his line of job, you can't allow yourself the luxury of being scared or overly confident. Again, he seriously needs a crash course in PR, cause as it is he's asking for retaliationPanther wrote:OK , well ; this vet is really acting as a jerk now , forgetting he's in a wolf pack's house
Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
He's got a point, really. Doctors go through a lot of stress, from having so many count on you to being the bearer of bad news. It's a lot for anyone to take in, so emotional attachments could be problematic.

Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
This vet really needs to work on his bedside manner. Stressing the mother dog out with details about ownership is not going to help the birth.
Douglas isn't my real name, but because of a name block put on me by a higher-order being known as Djinni, I can't say my real name.
Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
The more i read the strip , the less i feel this vet (animal instinct)
I begin to think he's planning something ; kidnap Bailey ?
For a little , i would say it's the PETA guy with some more years (the one with glandular "problem")

Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
let's face it. Pets are really just pets... Animals, nothing more or less. I usually dislike people, threating animals as people. I can get the vet point. The universe there is strange, because the pets there hold the middle ground between humans and animals, somehow it's strange leaving them alone but it's alright somehow. It reminds me of times before the american civil war... but don't let us get that far.
And to be brutally honest if anyone of us (in our kind of universe), would see a "dog-wedding" on the TV... we would all shake our heads.

This is the point where Bailey would snap, because if you really want to care for her well-being, you probably should be asking her instead of making orders "on her behalf".

I'm not surprised he might act this way... seems to be the more commonplace worldview. But I am a little surprised someone so human-centric is a vet. In Babylon Gardens, no less.

actually that's a good question: Do the ferrets (or rather, the Milton Trust Fund) own Bailey legally?ChekeBello wrote:Well they are owned by spoiled ferrets

We're talking about the specifical Housepets! universe, so no comparation to our universe is valid as far as legal and/or folklore goes.Jakkal wrote:let's face it. Pets are really just pets... There we have fully sentient, intelligent, talking beings. Also, in Japan tanukis are full citizen, meaning a level of rights not applied to american pets. And in Feraga, animals have all the legal rights -heck, Jata has diplomatic credentials as a fully-recognized prince.
So the problem with American pets in the Housepets! universe lays in how the US bill of rights is applied.
So, NO, pets are NOT just really animals.

I confess that I would not approve of a marriage between two normal dogs. Anthro dogs, perfect, but real dogs, no.Jakkal wrote:And to be brutally honest if anyone of us (in our kind of universe), would see a "dog-wedding" on the TV... we would all shake our heads.

This doc is kind of a jerk, but I guess he's just doing his job. However, it's not his place to tell them how they should treat Bailey, especially when they've been nothing but good to her and King. Sounds to me like the doc could use a good old fashioned wolf scare. Of course, if they take that too far, they could wind up in a spot of trouble.

Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
That vet is a NASTY GUY
Still he is kinda right. Sure we as we readers know that Elaine and her mom have experience as midwives, but he doesn't. While I don't know much about the process of someone giving birth, I'm sure a crowded room isn't something practical in that kind of situation and we know it was crowded before. On the other hand it's normal for the wolves that an event this big is shared with the whole family, because it is a family matter.
I personally don't see it as vet vs. Pets/Animals, but more a clash of two different cultures and for me, both have their points.
Also I think if anyone throws that vet out of the house, it would be King. He doesn't seem pleased with the attitude of the vet.
The vet should watch out or someone will face him
Daawww Elaine don't make a face like that

probably shouldn't have said that in earshot of a pack of wolves.

That "well-marbled delivery guy" is probably starting to look a little tasty to the wolves now. And there's certainly plenty to go around.
King looks an awful lot like my own Corgi. That's one reason why he's my favorite, but I also like his attitude.
Re: 2015/12/16 - No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed
Pets holding the middle ground between animals and humans : we should to say that it's a sort of pre-anthros . And if you dislike to threat animals as peoples ; you can stop to read this comic , because i strongly doubt rick Griffin will stop to draw these "pets" just for you feel betterJakkal wrote:let's face it. The thing I'm most curious about already, is if and when King and Bailey will tell their cubs King's true story. Or if they will all be in cahoots and make up a different tale.
Nothing fixes a thing so intensely to the memory as the wish to forget it.

You should have picked a better actor to compare, Eastwood after all is BOTH of those things...I can't tell if the vet is supposed to be like Clint Eastwood were he's rather rough and rude, and yet a good guy. Or if he's just a jerk.
But yeah... I feel like this vet isn't going to be there very long, Its one thing to push out the wolves but trying to push king out and insult his marriage? he very well may have crossed the line on that one.
Also, i know i have asked this several times.... Where are you guys getting those awesome banners!?

I would imagine it's hard getting a vet license with a history of animal-related criminal activity!
